UNESCO has been charged with developing the UN’s Open Science Roadmap by late 2021. OSI is one of a handful of key scholarly communication organizations who are helping advise UNESCO on this challenge. OSI’s Plan A is designed to build an “on-ramp” to UNESCO’s plan by creating a framework for broad, global collaboration on needed, foundational open actions.
The scholarly communication community needs to work together on common ground to build the future of open research. Why? This paper spells out the case, and includes summaries of OSI’s common ground recommendations, developed by the world’s largest, most diverse group of high level scholarly communication leaders and experts over a period of five years.
